Good Point Gas

In 2009 real estate investor and community leader Stan Miller purchased the land at the corner of Rosecrans and Cañon Streets in Point Loma Village from Ohio Wesleyan University. 

 

The corner property had a 76 Gas and Service Station at the time of the purchase, but due to some compliance issues no gas was being sold. Rather than securing another gas operator tenant who would tie up the property for 20 years, Miller elected to teach himself the gas business.  Stan fulfilled the compliance requirements, restarted the gas sales and operated it himself via a company he formed known as Good Point, a name created during a family brainstorm.

 

Transitioning from international to local, Stan moved his family to Point Loma from Hong Kong, where he was VP, Real Estate Investment with Chase International Private Banking.  He is known locally for not only being a businessman, but also a family man. His son, Dillon began to help him manage the station while his daughter, Michele, would run the register over her summer vacations. Now, Michele and her husband, Thomas, manage the business together with help from Stan. Since restarting the gas business at this site, Good Point has had a 100% record of annual compliance testing via the many local, state and federal government agencies tasked with regulating the gasoline business in California.  

 

The ‘retro’ look of the station is retained because it’s a long-time neighborhood gas station -- now locally owned with good service and a good neighbor. Stan is a long time volunteer in youth organizations such as Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts and Exploring and the citizenship and community service values provided to young people via these programs are also practiced at Good Point.

 

Gas prices may be a bit higher than some other locations because of the choice not to generate sales from tobacco products, alcoholic beverages or lottery tickets. Supporting a gas station like this is supporting the mission, the morals and the community. It’s putting money into a business that values areas such as: family, local business, youth, and moral integrity.
